This project involved the conduction of a literature review to identify potential pond emission mitigation strategies, particularly low cost options feasible for smaller farms. The results showed that reductions in pond methane emissions are achievable from changes in feed diet composition and feeding system technology, and in solids separation technology. Permeable pond covers, straw covers and purple pond phototrophic microbes also showed potential, however, it was concluded that further investigation into all strategies and their overall greenhouse gas emission position is required to improve understanding and develop feasibility options.
