This project aimed to demonstrate the benefits of pond covering and odour control, biogas flaring and the monitoring of biogas production to students and to industry. The project involved the collection of piggery effluent in a closed hybrid tube and covered lagoon anaerobic digester system to enable the capture of greenhouse gases (principally methane). Since construction, the piggery is now more efficient in effluent removal using the new plumbing system and the number of students showing interest in the operation of pig systems at the school has increased.
