Dietary Lysine Requirements and Feeding Regimes for Finisher Pigs

53 Pages

Author(s): Karen Moore

This project aimed to validate the optimum lysine requirement of the grower finisher pig as well as to investigate the effect of blend feeding or feeding a single diet compared to phase feeding throughout the grower finisher phase on growth performance, carcase quality and economic viability.

The results showed that the optimal lysine requirement for male and female pigs between 60 and 103kg LW based on ADG, FCR, carcase gain and profitability was estimated to be 0.61 to 0.64gm available Lysine/ MJ DE. In addition the results found that there was no cost benefit to feeding the single diet which is in contrast to previous findings where a single diet reduced diet cost by $3 per pig.
