Review of Innate Immunity in Pigs

1 Pages

Author(s): Prof John Pluske

This project involved conducting a literature review to identify factors that may reduce or enhance the capacity of the pigs’ immune system and develop methods to reduce disease impacts, reduce antibiotic use and enhance pig performance. The study recommended the development of an on-farm strategy, involving tailored practices around air quality, temperature, feed and vaccination schedules, to ensure the immune system of commercially raised pigs is not excessively challenged by, and is prepared to respond to, pathogenic organisms.
