This project summarised available data on validated measures of community attitudes towards pig welfare, identified links between these attitudes and consumer and other community behaviours that may impact on the sustainability of the Australian pork industry. It also provided recommendations on strategic responses by the pork industry to accommodate changes in community perceptions. Two complementary approaches to monitoring community attitudes relevant to pig welfare were suggested. The first was designed to provide data on continuous trends in a small number of key areas, and the other would provide comprehensive information every 3 to 5 years.
