PigGas is a graphical spreadsheet model which allows producers to understand and quantify their individual piggery’s emissions and drivers using site specific factors ( ie diets, transport, waste treatment systems etc). It Identifies potential energy savings and income streams from trading carbon credits and allows testing of possible scenarios to reduce on-farm emission. PigGas was tested on six farms (case studies) which found a large variation in on-farm emissions (0.99 to 6.39 kg CO2-e / kg HSCW) depending on infrastructure, production and management. Different scenarios to reduce emissions were modelled yielding reductions from 5% to 87%.
