This project aimed to quantify the effect of chilled drinking water on the growth rate and feed efficiency of grower pigs, and evaluate the milk vat as a tool for providing chilled drinking water. Results showed that the provision of cooled drinking water had no significant impact on growth performance of grower pigs due to the mild summer temperatures experienced during the study. Given the milk vat’s total cost of $5,200 and operating costs of approximately $3.00/day, this may be a reliable and cost effective tool for providing cooled water to growing pigs.
